We are committed to ensuring that people have information on which to make informed choices about sustainable lifestyles.
We sell local fresh produce and we aim to ensure that nothing has travelled more than 30 miles. We also sell environmental goods such as eco-balls, faith in nature products, biodegradable plastic bags, cotton shopping bags, locally crafted goods and we give environmental advice on a whole range of issues.
We started the community shop because we knew people wanted the choice of local produce and we also knew that we had to be sustainable ourselves if this project was to work. I am delighted to say that we are now running several projects – the school gardening project where primary school children are learning to grow their own vegetables and volunteers from Headcorn Sustainability help them on a weekly basis. The Food People Place project – we were chosen as a pilot project for the Countryside Agency and we are now looking at holding a public exhibition helping people make the connections between their local food and their landscape. The carbon neutral motoring project where we are encouraging people to use locally pressed vegetable oil as a fuel.
