Wonersh Village Shop reopened on 29th October 2004, and now includes a Post Office. With the aid of donations and interest-free loans from the local community, the freehold was bought, and then developed by Wonersh Village Stores Limited. The company then entered into a 15 year lease with our shopkeepers, Kalpesh and Neela Patel, and with the after-tax rental income, hopes to repay the interest-free loans over 10 years.
Now that the first loan repayments have been made, and both the new company and the underlying shop are clearly viable, ownership of Wonersh Village Stores Limited is being transferred to a new Charitable Trust, the Wonersh Foundation. The hope and intention is that, once the company''s borrowings have been fully repaid, any subsequent rental surpluses will be available to help other needy causes in the Parish.
