According to local records, there had been a shop in Tytherington since 1608. In June 1996, the village shop announced that it was closing. Villagers immediately initiated plans to open a new village shop and in May 1998, the doors of the new shop opened. The shop is situated in a completely new building funded by membership of the Tytherington Village Shop Association along with numerous other sources.
Building started on 24 February 1998 and the shop was trading on 24 May 1998. Enthusiastic volunteers man the till and keep the shop stocked with various goods as demanded by local residents.
